President's Message
Welcome to our revised website for the Southside Virginia Volunteer Firefighters Association! The publicity committee and officers of the association have been working with Paula Wilborne of Wilborne Web Works for several months to refresh our website with a new look and expanded information. Paula is doing an excellent job of entering our requests into the website and we hope to receive many photos, articles, flyers, and information updates from our member departments.
I am honored to have been nominated and
elected as your president from 2009-2010. As I mentioned in my opening remarks
at our annual convention and competition, we have some exciting plans in
store for our association over the next year. We have established a photography/videography
team within the publicity committee to cover all SVVFA events and provide
photos and videos for our website.
To start off a new year for the SVVFA, I am asking all committees to have
a minimum of one meeting before Mid-February and another before Mid-July.
Our annual meeting to select members for all committees will be on October
7, 2009 at the Chase City Fire Station. We are also making plans for a strategic
planning retreat for the SVVFA officers and about 20 other members between
now and January 16, 2010.
If you are a SVVFA member and are interested in serving on any of our committees, please contact me or any of our other officers to discuss how you can contribute. We also need 5 members to serve on a temporary committee that will be tasked to design a nice logo for our association.
I look forward to seeing you at our next
meeting on October 21 at North Halifax VFD. Until then, be safe out there!
Buddy Hyde
Past President's Message
Thank you to all of the members of the Southside Virginia Volunteer Firefighters Association (SVVFA) for you continued support over the past year as I served as your president. The term passed quickly and I am proud of the work that our committees performed during the year. Fellowship among our association members from many counties was enjoyed at our quarterly meetings in Triplet, Virgilina, and Turbeville. The SVVFA is maintaining a solid membership and it was great to see so many departments attend our 54th Annual Convention & Competition in Brodnax. Our parade this year had over 50 emergency vehicles and there were 13 fire department teams competing on the field.
As I continue helping the association as your immediate past president, I am excited about our progress continuing and our association growing. Our future looks bright even under these tough economic times in 2009. May all of your departments remain strong through the upcoming challenges in our funding forecasts. As we all know, your response to emergencies in your community is an essential service, not an option, and you all do an excellent job to answer the critical needs of the public.
I have enjoyed the past year as president and I will hold on to some great memories from our meetings and the work we have accomplished together.
