Membership - Any Volunteer Fire Department or Company in the active service area defined in the by-laws of the association shall be entitled to membership upon payment of such dues as may be prescribed, and all members or member departments and companies shall automatically be members of this association. However, each new member company or department must be voted on and passed by a majority of the member companies or departments present. Honorary and associate memberships may be created by the association in such cases and upon such terms as the association shall, at any regular meeting, prescribe.
To be eligible for membership, a fire department or fire company has to be located within the following boundaries: Begin at the North Carolina state line of I-95, travel west along the N.C. state line to the corporate city limits of Danville, VA, travel north along Rt. 29 to the James River (excluding the City of Lynchburg, VA), travel north along the James River to Rt. 60, travel to Rt. 15, to secondary Rt. 622, to Rt. 60, travel to the western boundaries of Chesterfield County, travel south along the Chesterfield County line to the Appomatox River, travel east along the Appomatox River to I-95 (excluding the City of Petersburg, VA; but including Colonial Heights), travel south on I-95 to the North Carolina state line, including the City of Emporia, VA and Southampton County.
